Fair Play for Children, founded in 1972 by Trevor Huddleston, exists to promote the Child's Right to Play as contained in Article 31 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child:

Fair Play currently consists of two wings:

1. The Fair Play For Children Association, which campaigns for the Right to Play, consists of a subscribing, supporting membership (Individual, Local Group, Statutory Authority/Trades Union, Regional, National Voluntary and Commercial). It lobbies for change in Government Policy and practice, advises e.g. parents and local communities on play- related issues, publishes an online news service, and brings playworkers, other professionals, organisations and activists together to share information, experiences and resources.
   
   
2. The Fair Play For Children Charitable Trust Limited, which shares common membership and management with the Association, and which undertakes research, information, advisory and related work based around The Right to Play.

Fair Play for Children works co-operatively with other agencies, and through Play England (formerly The Children's Play Council) of which it is a founder member.

5. Enabled access to Police Checks for Voluntary Groups
   - part of a pre-CRB national pilot
6. A Fair Deal for Our Children Campaign
   - highlighting inequalities between local government expenditure on adult leisure and children's play, work continues

2000+

1. CRB Umbrella Body since launch of CRB
   - thousands of enhanced checks completed for organisations
2. Represented Children's Play interests on working party which set up the Vetting and Barring Scheme
3. Launched new website with news service, online library, publications etc
4. Child Protection Training Events throughout the country
   - aimed at smaller voluntary bodies
5. National Survey of use of Acceptable Behaviour Contracts with Children
6. National Survey on Local Authority Expenditure on Children's Play

   - monitoring unfair blanket curfews on children and young people in the UK
